Voyent Alert! 1.4 Release Notes

Voyent Alert 1.4 New Features & Improvements

Administration

Region Configuration

  • Regions now have a dedicated Configuration tab for all region-level configurations.
  • The Postal Codes tab has been removed. There is no longer any need to maintain a set of postal codes per region for recipient registration purposes.
  • Regions can now define one or more paragraphs of styled text for an extended description of their service as well as a Contact Information section should they optionally want to provide direct contact details for users to contact them directly. This information is displayed on the recipient user’s Home screen.
  • Regions can now optionally create additional “Issuers” that notifications can be “Issued By”.
  • The Region Configuration tab now includes a section to configure the new Administrator Reminders feature.

Administrators

Alert Admins can now optionally be restricted to limit the Templates and Alerts they can View/Edit/Activate:

  • Issuers – select specific Issuers the admin can select when activating alerts.
  • Severity – select a specific Alert Severity (Informational, Critical) that the admin can View, Edit, or Activate.
  • Public Topics – select a specific set of Public Topics that the admin can target an alert to.
  • Recipient Groups – select a specific set of Recipient Groups that the admin can target an alert to.

Public Topics

  • All regions must have at least one Public Topic at all times. By default the “General Notices” topic is created for each region. This is to ensure that all Informational notifications are targeted to a Topic so that recipient users have the option of un-enrolling from the topic to stop receiving the Informational notifications instead of possibly unregistering from Voyent Alert! completely (and thus being unable to receive Critical notifications as well).
  • All Public Topics are now auto-enrolling, meaning that all existing recipient users are added to new topics when they are created, as well as any new recipient users that register after the topic has been created. Recipient users may receive an initial notification from the Topic and then they can decide to unenroll for that topic if they desire.

Template / Alert Editor
Content

  • The Issuer for a zone can now be selected from the list of configured Issuers for the region (if more than one exists).
  • Media such as Images and PDF files can now be uploaded and included inline in the Description, Instructions, and Additional Information sections.

Recipients

  • Informational zones may now only be targeted to Public Topics and/or Recipient Groups (not All Recipients as previously). This is to ensure that all Informational notifications are targeted to a Topic so that recipient users have the option of un-enrolling from the topic to stop receiving the Informational notifications instead of possibly unregistering from Voyent Alert! completely (and thus being unable to receive Critical notifications as well).
  • Critical zones may still only be targeted to All Recipients and/or Recipient Groups (as previous).

Acknowledgement

  • Reminder that in order for a response to trigger the Notify on Response feature the zone must to targeted to one or more Recipient Groups only (not All Recipients). This is to ensure that a flood of potentially thousands of Notify on Response notifications aren’t sent.

Recurring Scheduled Alerts

  • An alert can now be configured as a recurring scheduled alert whereby the alert can be scheduled to activate at the same time and for the same duration (up to 23 hours) on multiple future dates as selected in a calendar.
  • Recurring Alerts appear as a single scheduled alert entry in the Alerts list. In addition, when a recurring alert activates it generates a new Active alert in the list for the duration of the activation period.

Activity & Billing Reports

  • All notification types are now included on Activity and Billing reports (previously only alert notifications were included). These include notification types including login passcodes, registration welcome notifications, alert activations, recipient responses, and admin reminders. The notifications are included in the existing notification counts (by endpoint type). In addition, a new “Other” line-item has been added to the Alert and Notification Summary section on the Activity report.
  • Daily Activity – it is now possible to click on any monthly-data bar-chart columns to display a daily breakdown of the charted data for the selected month.

Mobile Admin

  • Mobile admins can now view a list of active alerts, view the notification counts for an active alert, and END an active alert, in addition to the previous functionality of activating a mobile alert.

Admin Reminders

Voyent Alert! will now automatically email administrators with reminder notifications for the following scenarios:

  • When they create a new Administrator account that has NOT been confirmed within 24 hours.
  • When an alert they’ve activated without a scheduled end time has been active for > 5 days (recurs every 5 days).
  • When a recurring scheduled alert has only 2 future scheduled events remaining (recurs after each scheduled activation).

The threshold values that trigger the reminder emails can be configured in the Region Configurations tab.

Recipient User

All New User Application

  • The user application has been completely re-implemented to provide a greatly reduced download size, faster loading times, and improved user-responsiveness.
  • Most of the UI is very similar to the previous release but all aspects have subtle tweaks and refinements.

Registration

  • Revised user registration wizard leverages the Google Places autocomplete to place the user’s initial location pin. Users can locate their regions via full address, community name, postal code (incl. first 3 digits), or any other means that the Google Places autocomplete supports.
  • Recipient’s location pin’s a precise location is retained after registration.
  • User endpoint (email, sms, voice) entry must be visually confirmed during registration.
  • Users can BACK up a step from the SEND NOTIFCATION screen if they realize they’ve entered an incorrect contact endpoint. If the user pressed RESEND NOTIFICATION, they are shown their endpoint and given the option of backing up a step to correct it then as well.

Notifications

  • The notifications list now includes non-alert notifications that the recipient has received, such as Alert Activation notifications and Recipient Response notifications (if they are members of a Recipient Group configured to receive these types of notifications).

My Locations

  • Location pins are now address-aware. If they are created via address search or landmark marker the address will be retained and displayed on the pin dialog. If the marker is dragged to a new location the address will auto-populate based on the location the pin is dropped/added. Users can also edit the address directly in the location pin dialog.

Mobile Notification Detail

  • Users viewing a notification on a mobile device (either via the app or mobile browser) can now dynamically adjust the test size via on-screen controls.

Legacy Browser Support

  • Users attempting to view notifications in legacy browsers that are not supported by the full Voyent Alert application will be presented with a simplified pure HTML version of the specific notification detail, along with a browser compatibility warning. This will enable SMS users on legacy platforms such as Blackberry to view the details of a specific notification, though without access to any of the other app features.

Mobile Apps

Android App

  • Now supports optionally storing user credentials in the Google Smartlock service. This supports migrating an existing app registration from one device to another, restoring from backup, or sharing a single registration across multiple iOS devices.
  • Now supports advanced background location tracking to notify users when they approach an active alert zone in a privacy and battery friendly manner.
  • App users can share the notification details via the standard platform “share” function.
  • Native notifications now include improved formatting and will display the alert badge icon.
  • Greatly reduced loading times (via new user application).

iOS App

  • Now supports storing user credentials in the iOS keychain service, including optional iCloud backup. This supports migrating an existing app registration from one device to another, restoring from backup, or sharing a single registration across multiple iOS devices.
  • Now supports advanced background location tracking to notify users when they approach an active alert zone in a privacy and battery friendly manner.
  • Native notifications now include improved formatting and will display the alert badge icon.
  • Reduced loading times (via new user application).
